Moving Forward with Courage and Confidence

One of the most beautiful quotes that resonates with me is from the Bible – ‘God’s mercies are new every morning’. It reminds me that every day is a new day and I don’t have to be shackled by the mistakes or failures of yesterday! The beginning of a new year is a reminder of this as well. With a new year comes new opportunities, new perspectives, new focus and new goals.
I am particularly excited about this new year because I am applying all the research from my Wellbeing Coaching to my personal life and my professional practice. I am excited at the process and the prospect of significant breakthroughs on the journey toward optimal health and wellbeing both in my life and in my clients.
I would like to share what I am doing to make sure I start this new year on the right foot. And as you can see, they all start with ‘C’!
Celebrate
A new year is often a good time to look back on the successes of the previous year. If this is something you like to do, remember to celebrate all the good things that happened to you or that you achieved. Even if you have to dig a bit, you will find there are more of these than you suspect at first!
Challenge
It is also good to look back at the challenges of the previous year. What forced us to change or fight or learn new ways of coping? Has adversity brought out strengths or skills we never knew we had? Or have we had to adapt and forge new skills or new strength of character? What have we learnt about ourselves that will help us face challenges this coming year?
Compassion
Have we had compassion on ourselves, and thought and acted with compassion towards others? When you are compassionate towards yourself and others, you allow yourself to reach out to others and to realise you are not alone.
Confidence
Keeping a ‘gratitude journal’ is one thing that really builds people’s confidence and ability to see the brighter side of life. Do you know that we naturally tend to focus on what has gone wrong or failed in any given period? Ending or starting every day with a list of all the things that have gone right is a way to counter that. Additionally, being able to reflect all that back to someone else in gratitude is incredibly powerful. For me, this is an opportunity to thank God for the all those things I am grateful for.
Control
There are some areas of life where we need to take control, such as with regard to healthy habits that will break destructive cycles of behaviour. However, other times we may need to recognise that there are some things beyond our control. You might like to listen to Dr David Hamilton, a leading expert on the on the mind body connection and author of The contagious power of positive thinking. An interview with him titled ‘Why Changing Your Mindset Can Change Your Health’ is available on the Deliciously Ella Podcast here.
Curiosity
A new year ahead is a great opportunity to explore. Having an open mind and being willing to engage with ourselves, others and the world at large with a child-like curiosity can be so liberating! This can bring great insight and wisdom into how to move forward in our journeys to greater health and wellbeing.
Creativity
Sometimes we get stuck in a rut. How can we get from where we are to where we want to be? Working with me as a wellbeing coach, I design exciting and motivating goals to help explore your life purpose and nutritional health.
Courage
2022 may look a bit daunting. After all the traumas of the past two years of Covid challenges and lockdowns, it may seem like another challenging year is ahead. Courage is what allows us to face each day with strength and determination. Contact me to find out how wellbeing coaching can help you build your courage.
With every blessing,
Emma
