Tired all the time?

Tired all the time?

I feel tired all the time, what could it be and is there anything I can do about it?tired person

In my job as a Nutritional Therapist, many people come into my clinic either feeling exhausted all the time or finding it really difficult to get up in the morning or having a serious dip in energy mid-morning and mid-afternoon. Only this week a new client told me that, given the chance, she would go to sleep every afternoon but her job prevented her from doing so.

So what could be causing this?

If you feel exhausted, particularly after you have eaten, it may be an imbalance in your blood glucose (a form of sugar) levels. Your body should ensure that you have eight teaspoons circulating in your blood at all times. This is essential because glucose is the only fuel used by your brain. Every cell in your body needs it in order to function properly. Too little glucose circulating in your blood and your cells will not function properly, too much and this can be toxic to your body. When there is too much glucose in your blood, a hormone called insulin is produced y your pancreas which stimulates your liver and muscle cells to take up glucose thus removing it from your blood. The problem is that your pancreas overcompensates by producing too much insulin thus removing too much glucose from your blood causing a drop in blood sugar. When your blood glucose levels drop, you will get a drop in energy and will start craving sweet foods and stimulants.

Do you struggle to get out of bed and feel exhausted for the first few hours of the day? Do you struggle to feel motivated first thing in the morning? Perhaps your lack of energy is cause by a poor functioning thyroid? Your thyroid gland regulates your metabolism and your metabolism is like the engine is to a car. In the same way that an efficient engine heats up a car quickly, your thyroid also controls your body heat which is why a good indication of a poor functioning thyroid is a low body temperature when you wake up in the morning, and cold hands and feet. Eating foods high in iodine can help support your thyroid.

Perhaps your tiredness has been caused by excess stress over a long period of time and your body is saying, “Stop”. Stress can be external, perhaps a stressful job, a demanding family life or an unhappy relationship.  You may benefit from doing an Adrenal Stress Profile which would show how well your body was coping with daily stress. Stress can also be internal particularly if you have had one illness after another or had an underlying infection you are unaware of. There are several other functional tests that I can recommend as well as taking a thorough history and an EIS scan which can help determine the most appropriate approach for you.

Another reason you may feel tired all the time is because your body is not getting rid of harmful substances called toxins that it is facing on a daily basis. In other words, your detoxification system is not working properly. Sherry Rogers has written a whole book on this subject called “Tired or Toxic?”.

So, as you can see, here are just a few of the reasons why you may be feeling tired all the time. Perhaps you would benefit booking in with me for a consultation and we can explore this further.
