My first Coffee Enema

My first Coffee Enema

My first Coffee Enema

I did my first ever coffee enema because I was told it was one of the best ways for cleansing the liver and speeding up detoxification processes in the body.  Many people have suggested that it helps their migraine headaches go away; feel more clear-headed and more energetic; greatly reduces or completely removes nausea; reduces pain relief anywhere in the body; gives better mood; clears up skin problems; and give better sleep.  So having read the benefits I thought I would give it a go.  I also wanted to be in a position to begin to recommend it to the appropriate clients.

enema bagGosh I learnt a lot from doing it!  Before starting, I had already practised by doing some warm water enemas.  The biggest surprise I had was how clean the whole process was.  I definitely expected the worst and so did the first enema lying in the bath – not the most comfortable place!!  I quickly realised how strong the sphincter muscle in our bottom is so was very relieved that there was no mess at all.  After the first enema, I was confident enough to do the enema’s lying on my bathroom carpet – a much more comfortable place.  After the water enema I felt great.  It felt like a toxic load had been lifted from my body.  A mistake I made the first time was not wearing enough clothes and consequently getting cold so a resurrected this problem the second time around.

IMG_0447It was now time to try the coffee enema.  I brought some good quality organic coffee and proceeded to follow the ‘cooking’ instructions.  It was 9pm at night by the time I was ready to start.  The instructions said to leave two hours to do the whole procedure.  I thought to myself that, “it won’t take two hours, it will take an hour at longest and I will be finished easily by 10pm.  Perhaps I can even watch the 10 o’clock news with my husband!!”.  How wrong I was and how right the instructions were!

I started with 3 quick warm water enema’s to flush everything out before doing the coffee one.  All was going to plan so far.  Now for the coffee one!  The instructions suggested holding the coffee one in for 15 minutes so I organised myself with Dr Natasha Campbell McBride’s book, “GAPS stories”, which, by the way, is a must read!

All went well and nearly two hours later I finished with a final ‘probiotic’ flush to ensure I was replacing some of the beneficial bacteria that would have been removed by the enema.  Once I had finished the enema’s, I ran a lovely warm bath for myself and added some Epsom Salts.  What a wonderful way to relax after my enema experience!

Now it was bedtime.  Second mistake and a big one!  I felt very relaxed after the bath but quickly realised that my brain was on full alert.  I ended up lying wide awake until 3am in the morning.  I realised it must have been the stimulation from the coffee so, the following day, rang someone for some advice.  I was told that people are advised not to do a coffee enema after 1pm in the day and at the very very latest 6pm!  No wonder I couldn’t sleep!!  I was also told that doing a coffee enema regularly can deplete the body of electrolytes and therefore should generally be done alongside juicing.

Although I did not sleep the night of enema, the next day I felt amazing that night had the best night’s sleep I had had for a long time.  I do believe this was down to the benefits that the coffee enema had on my detoxification system!

I recognise that doing enema’s is not for everyone but here is a summary of the most important things I learnt:-

  • Stay warm
  • Leave plenty of time
  • Preferably do not do it after 1pm
